Go Orange Day

#Orange4Safety, #GoOrangeDay

Go Orange Day takes place on Wednesday, April 23, and is an important part of National Work Zone Awareness Week. This day allows the community to show its support for roadway safety in work zones by wearing orange. Participants are encouraged to post videos and photos of themselves or a group wearing orange with the hashtags #Orange4Safety and #GoOrangeDay. Videos and photos should be fun, safe, and creative.

History of NWZAW

National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) is an event that takes place across the United States, with partnerships between state departments of transportation (DOT), national road safety organizations, government agencies, private companies, and individuals.


It was first initiated in 1997 by a group of Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) staff members. They wanted to dedicate a week to raise awareness about work zone safety among their employees. With the success of this event, VDOT had the idea to share it among other DOT's. In 1998 the VDOT presented the idea to create a national campaign to ATTSA officials. In December of the following year, that idea would become a reality with the first launch of the official NWZAW.
